(a.) Certification and ratification of the Amendment XIX (the Nineteenth Amendment) to the United States Constitution 2007 marks it’s 87th Anniversary Given our Global network we can also includ a Global Women Political empowerment component along with our first annual lecture series leading up to the 100th Anniversary. How about we celebrate and honor women who have been voted for in elections and or have made historical benchmarks for all women to build on! *Amendment XIX* (the *Nineteenth Amendment*) to the United States Constitution provides that neither the individual states of the United States nor its federal government may deny a citizen the right to vote because of the citizen's sex. It was ratified on August 18, 1920, upon its ratification by Tennessee, the thirty-sixth state to do so. Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby certified the ratification on August 26, 1920.*Nineteenth Amendment* *“* The right of citizens in the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. *”* *History* the amendment prohibits both the local government and the states from using a person's sex as a qualification to vote; it was specifically intended to extend suffrage to women. It was proposed on June 4, 1919 and ratified on August 18, 1920 the amendment was the culmination of the work of many activists in favor of women's suffrage. One such group called the Silent Sentinels protested in front of the White House for 18 months starting in 1917 to raise awareness of the issue.
(b.) 232nd Anniversary of July 4, 1776 – July 4, 2008: Independence Day [July 4 every year] In the United States, Independence Day (commonly known as "the Fourth of July" or "July Fourth") Independence Day (commonly known as "the Fourth of July" or "July Fourth") is a federal holiday celebrating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Independence Day is commonly associated with parades, barbecues, beer, picnics, baseball games, and various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States. Fireworks have been associated with the Fourth of July since 1777. July 4, 2007 marks the 231st year Americans have celebrated our independence. Have we learned how to be free while living within a national community? We call our nation’s founding documents inspired, but are we inspired by them? Do we recognize, in the words of Mortimer J. Adler, that citizenship is the only permanent political office? Are we fulfilling our office of citizenship in ways that honor the unalienable rights bestowed on all human beings by our Creator?
Decentralization Centralization of wealth and power contributes to social and economic injustice, environmental destruction, and militarization. Therefore, we support a restructuring of social, political and economic institutions away from a system that is controlled by and mostly benefits the powerful few, to a democratic, less bureaucratic system. Decision-making should, as much as possible, remain at the individual and local level, while assuring that civil rights are protected for all citizens.

(c.) 125th Anniversary of Labor Day 1882-2007• September 3, 2007: Labor Day [1st Monday in Sept] Labor Day is a United States federal holiday that takes place on the first Monday in September; it will occur next on September 3, 2007. It last occurred on September 4, 2006. The holiday began in 1882, originating from a desire by the Central Labor Union to create a day off for the "working man". It is still celebrated mainly as a day of rest. Community Based Economics We must design our work structures to encourage employee ownership and workplace democracy. We must develop new economic activities and institutions that will allow us to use our new technologies in ways that are humane, freeing, ecological and accountable and responsive to communities. We must establish some form of basic economic security, open to all. We must restructure our patterns of income distribution to reflect the wealth created by those outside the formal monetary economy: those who take responsibility for parenting, housekeeping, home gardens, community volunteer work, etc. We must restrict the size and concentrated power of corporations without discouraging superior efficiency or technological innovation.
